Hosting a Western Party
Party Bonanza’s Party Guide
The Event: A Western celebration. This can be a Western theme or an Old West theme.
Ideal time of the year to have the event: People throw Western theme'd parties year-round.
Reason for the party: Western is a part of our culture. Whether its the Old West, Wild West, Remembering the Alamo (in which case it'd be in the Feb-Mar timeframe to throw the party since that battle took place during Feb 23rd to Mar 6th, 1836), etc.
Additional reason to throw the party: Party Bonanza never needs an additional reason to throw a party and neither should you.
Party Points: Make sure the party appeals to your guest. How many guests will you have? What’s your party budget? Remember…. You’re the host! Its on you to make it fun, memorable, wild, elegant, festive, or just an easy, relaxed environment and Party Bonanza has the party supplies to help you make your party exactly how you want it to be.

Contest 1: Salsa Contest
Have your friends bring different types of homemade salsa. You can rate them based on taste (flavor), kick (as in which one is the hotest), and creativity (I've seen a chocolate salsa, ok I didn't say it was good, but it was definitely different).
Contest 2: Chili Cook-off
Have your friends bring their homemade chili. Now you just turned your Western Party into a potluck. PB generally recommends the same type rating scales for taste, kick, and creativity. One thing Jonathan did in the last chili cook off at his Air Force base was (and he was robbed by the judges by the way) he brought large bread rolls, cut out the top and center and used the bread roll like a bowl to serve the chili in.
Fun Game: Horseshoe Toss
Foul line is approximately 37 feet to the target stake for men and 27 feet for women
Divide the players into two even teams and give each team two horseshoes
Flip a coin to decide which team will toss/pitch first
Have the first player from the first team pitch both horseshoes (one at a time) from anywhere behind the foul line
Award 1 point for a shoe within six inches of the stake, or for a shoe touching the stake
Award 3 points for a shoe encircling the stake
Let the next players toss until all players have pitched, finishing the inning
Play to a specific score, I.E. 30, 40, or 50 points
Play extra innings in the event of a tie
Key Tip: If you want a special Western theme, when in doubt go with the Cartwright family's favority western series about our extended family on....Bonanza.
So remember…it’s a party! Enjoy yourself and your guests. Relax, pour yourself a drink, eat and above all have a good time. Drink responsibly and ensure your guests do as well because the next party is just around the corner.
