Hosting a Luau Party

Party Bonanza’s Party Guide

The Event: A luau is a Hawaiian celebration. It's a Hawaiian feast (We never forget the importance of food). Luaus fit so many celebrations that people tie them into weddings, graduations, birthdays, etc. It's a blending of parties. Speaking of blending, Margaritas and Mai Tais tend to be found at these celebrations.

Ideal time of the year to have the event: Summer time is ideal, but in truth, people throw luau themed parties year-round. Nothing like a nice Hawaiian Christmas Day.

Reason for the party: Luaus are the ideal summer parties, and we say parties because there's nothing wrong with having more than one.

Additional reason to throw the party: Party Bonanza never needs an additional reason to throw a party and neither should you.

Party Points: Make sure the party appeals to your guest. How many guests will you have? What’s your party budget? Remember…. You’re the host! It's on you to make it fun, memorable, wild, elegant, festive, or just an easy, relaxed environment and Party Bonanza has the party supplies to help you make your party exactly how you want it to be.

Party Dish 1! Banana Bread

Key Tip: The easiest dish is fruit kabobs. Utilizing Party Bonanza skewers, just add chunks of watermelon, pineapple, strawberries, cantaloupe, and honeydew or your favorite fruits. Mix it up and don't forget the Citronella candles. If your party goes through the night, you might just need the extra lighting, and they help keep the mosquitoes at bay.

So remember…it’s a party! Greet your guest with leis, have plenty of shade, I recommend using festive umbrellas. Enjoy yourself and your guests. Relax, pour yourself a drink, eat and above all have a good time. Drink responsibly and ensure your guests do as well because the next party is just around the corner.

Decorating Your Backyard
1. Use bright colors for table cloths
2. Hawaiian music
3. Fish nets on fences
4. Use seashells (be creative, they can go anywhere you want)
5. Use sandpails or buckets filled with treats
6. Floating candles (these can be in the pool, or in glass vases, jars, bowls, etc, generally you will put them in groups of three per glass bowl)
7. Christmas lights (Most decorators will use white lights, however, you can always mix it up with the color)

Luau Games
1. Wearing grass skirts, have your friends do the Hawaiian Hula
2. Bobbing for apples and/or strawberries
3. Make sure if people are hitting the pool you have a beach ball or two
4. Hawaiian Sponge Art - fruit, fish, seahorse, starfish (these can be fun cut outs for the younger guests)
5. Water guns (this can be fun for the kids or kids at heart)
6. Water balloon toss
7. Luau Bingo
8. Last but not least, Hawaiian Limbo is always popular (bamboo stick is a great prop to use for this one)
